ShirleyLiu

Textile & print designer

Working between drawing, cloth and the stories held inside them.

I make expressive surfaces from fragments of memory: hand-drawn figures, found ornament, worn textures and the odd little object that refuses to disappear.

Surfaces with a memory.

A selection of print-led projects moving from research and drawing into cloth, garment and space.

The way I work

I let the image stay a little imperfect.

My practice starts with looking closely: at objects, ornament, family stories, museum fragments and the marks left by use. I translate those observations through drawing, print and material play, allowing the surface to keep evidence of the hand that made it.

The result sits between craft, fashion and image-making — tactile, narrative and open to a second look.

03About Shirley

A textile designer from London, thinking through images.

I am a second-year BA (Hons) Textile Design student at Central Saint Martins, specialising in print. I work across hand drawing, digital development and textile processes to build surfaces that feel both considered and alive.

I am currently looking for a placement year opportunity for 2026—27, particularly within a print, textile, fashion or surface-design studio.

04Selected collaboration

Working with a brand changes the question.

Alongside self-directed research, I enjoy translating a visual idea into a clear, usable direction for a real audience and a real product context.

Print direction for a menswear brand

A collaborative project focused on trend analysis, visual research and the development of print motifs for a menswear collection. My role moved from research and pattern development into a complete design proposal and visual presentation.
